Greetings for a month full of health -Market update and Auspicious New Moon 🌙

Happy New Moon and welcome to the heat of summer, the so-called dog days – not because of lazy dogs 🐶  – but because this is the time of the year when Sirius, the Dog Star, rises in the Northern Hemisphere, signaling an auspicious time of rebirth, abundance, and spiritual connection! This year, the New Moon in Leo 🦁 falls today on August 8, even more, encouraging as new moons are a time for planting creative seeds, and the double 8s resemble the ♾ infinity ♾ symbol.

In the book I am writing, I discuss some aspects of Jewish mysticism around numbers. In the tradition, it says, "But the whole of Creation was crowned with the 7th day, the holy day of Shabbat, which is a source of life and blessing for all the creatures, since the Shabbat is the “soul,” so to speak, of the whole world.” Seven, a prime number, leads to the number 8, which in Mathematics, is the only positive Fibonacci number, aside from 1, and a perfect cube and the symbol for infinity. Thus, in all wisdom traditions, 8 represents harmony and transformation.

All of this is to say, today, please take a moment to reflect on your strengths and where you want to grow stronger. Where can you serve as a beacon of health for others? We are still in a pandemic, facing extended drought and fires unlike those occurring even 10 years ago. What can we do to protect ourselves and our loved ones in the face of a changing environment?

The CDC's report on climate and health states that climate change "influences human health and disease in numerous ways. Some existing health threats will intensify, and new health threats will emerge." Some, like dangers from floods and fires, seem straightforward – but there are many additional health risks, including vector-borne disease, air pollution, allergens and pollens, food security, and stress and mental health-related disorders, that can all be linked back to the extreme changes in the environment. I am not sharing this to cause any more stress. On the contrary! Instead, I see the time as NOW to honestly look into every one of our hearts, health and ask, what can I do to affect change and help my community and mother earth? This Leo new moon is a perfect time for introspection, self-care, reconnection to love, strength, and vitality as we work to create a solid and resilient community together.

Employees benefits

As more workplaces are reopening, companies large and small are focused on employee wellness. Of course, preventing the continued spread of Covid is a primary concern. Still, after months and months of working from home, many of us have gotten out of shape, adopted poor eating habits, and used more alcohol and other substances. Additionally, the excessive stresses of the pandemic continue to take a toll on our ongoing mental health. This article in Human Resources Executive magazine lays the case for a renewed focus on holistic wellness for a healthier workplace.

Mindfulness in the workplace has been proven as one of the most effective techniques in a hybrid benefits workplace environment. As mindful leaders, when we bring meditation and yoga into our daily lives, we can create a ripple effect and share the experience with our teams. I am more than happy to work with you on implementing a mindfulness program in your workplace! Please reach out via phone or text, or send an email to [email protected] to learn more!

CoveredCA

Introductory rates for the upcoming 2022 coverage year have been announced for all of our Covered California clients. Here's what you need to know:

1.  On July 28, Covered California announced that the average rate change for the 2022 individual market would be 1.8%.

●  This year's rate change follows record low rate changes from 2020 and 2021 and builds on record-high enrolment. The rate change for the past three years is an average of only 1.1%.

●  While this number reflects the statewide average, the rates for individual consumers will vary in 2022, given their circumstances and regional rate variations.

●  Beginning in October, Covered California consumers can connect with their Rightplan team member, Faye, to learn about their gross premium, federal and state subsidies, and estimated price for 2022.

●  In the meantime, Covered California wants to remind you that consumers can enroll now and begin benefiting from the new and expanded financial help from the American Rescue Plan, available only through Covered California. If you still have not signed up, please connect with us asap!

Travel

Travel continues to open up, and more and more leisure travel, study abroad, and extended trips are available. However, please remember that some insurance plans, including original Medicare, do NOT cover health concerns when out of the country. So, would you please travel smartly and ensure you are covered for medical, accidents, and cancellations while you're away from home?

What we are reading/Summer Read

In what has been called a game-changer for HIV prevention, prescriptions for Truvada and Descovy and associated clinic visits and labs will now be completely covered by most insurance. In addition, the new rule says insurers must not charge copays, coinsurance, or deductible payments for the quarterly clinic visits and lab tests required to maintain a PrEP prescription.

Body positivity has made long strides in making people with different body types feel included and accepted. But what if your health issues clash with anti-'diet culture' rhetoric?

Parting Thoughts

As we face another wave of Covid and perhaps even another lockdown, pandemic fatigue is exhausting and frustrating. While we all must do what we can to keep ourselves, our loved ones, and our communities safe, we also can turn to our breath for steadiness and support at the moment. A simple and effective breathing technique for calming the mind is simply evening and controlling the inhale and exhale. Try to inhale through the nose slowly for a count of four, hold at the top for a count of four, then exhale for a count of four, making sure that you maintain the count of four while exhaling. Focus on slow, even breaths. Repeating this technique a few times a day will help more oxygen flow to the brain and release nervous and anxious energy. Try it!

Sending you much love,

Naama and the Rightplan team
